In this issue, let’s talk about 5 skins that once existed but are barely known — chances are, most players have never seen them!
① Doctor – Akiko Yosano
This skin was part of a crossover featuring the character Akiko Yosano. It looked really nice, but as soon as the collaboration was announced, some pointed out that the real-life figure it was based on had a pro-war stance. In response, the developers quickly adjusted the event — the gold-tier skin for the Prospector was added to the store, and the purple-tier skin for the Painter was given out for free. This was purely due to political stance concerns, and Identity V has always handled such matters quite well.
② Novelist – Doppo Kunikida
Just like the Akiko Yosano skin, this one was also part of the Bungou Stray Dogs collaboration. However, because the original author it was based on also had pro-war views, it was taken down from the game.
③ Explorer – Heart Guard
This was a scrapped skin concept for the Explorer. Reportedly, back in 2019, the developers had plans to launch an Alice in Wonderland-themed skin series, with Explorer’s “Heart Guard” being one of the purple-tier skins. However, since the Explorer wasn’t very popular at the time, players showed little interest, and the skin was ultimately scrapped. Personally, I think the character model looked great — the slim waist was especially eye-catching. There was also a blue variant of this skin.
④ Feaster (Factory Director) – Abyss Captain
This was a scrapped concept for a skin similar in theme to the gold-tier “Greedy Kraken.” It was meant to be a limited (Essence) skin of rare quality, but perhaps due to its similarity to the existing gold-tier skin, it never got released.
⑤ Gardener – Flower Girl
This one is supposedly a scrapped “Flower Girl” skin. It looks surprisingly cute. Maybe it was canceled because it didn’t meet the color-swap standard of other skins in the same tier? Possibly to maintain consistency in quality, the first version was scrapped. If it had been released, I think many players would have liked it!
