What Capturing Radiance is
Capturing Radiance is a hidden rule on the Character Event Wish and Character Event Wish-2, added in Version 5.0 (August 28, 2024). It only matters when you pull a 5-star without a guarantee, which is the 50/50. When it triggers, the 50/50 that would have given you a standard character gives you the featured character instead.
It does not change pity. A 5-star is still guaranteed by pull 90, and losing a 50/50 still makes your next 5-star the featured character.
It never triggers on a guaranteed 5-star. It only triggers on a 50/50.
It does not apply to the Weapon Event Wish (Epitome Invocation), the standard wish, or Chronicled Wish.
How many 50/50 losses for Capturing Radiance?
Here is the official wording: if the promotional 5-star is the second 5-star you get on three consecutive occasions, Capturing Radiance is guaranteed the next time you get a 5-star (HoYoverse notice). Each "occasion" means you lost the 50/50, got a standard character, and then got the featured character on your guarantee.

HoYoverse has only published the base chance (0.018%), the overall 55% rate and the three-loss guarantee. The 75% figure for the third 50/50 comes from a community model (OneBST) built from millions of pulls. That model also produces an overall rate of about 55.2%, which matches the official 55%. So treat it as a close estimate, not an official number.

Losing two in a row is a 25% chance, not 22.5%. Capturing Radiance mostly helps from the third 50/50 onward. Its main job is to stop very long losing streaks. It does not lift the odds of every single pull.

Is it guaranteed after 2 losses? No. After two losses in a row, the next 50/50 is only more likely to succeed (about 75% in community data). The guarantee comes after three losses in a row.
Does winning a 50/50 reset Capturing Radiance? Not confirmed. HoYoverse only talks about "consecutive" losses, so a normal win breaks the streak. Community models disagree on whether a win resets the hidden count to zero or lowers it by one. Either way, after a win you need further losses before the boost comes back.

Capturing Radiance does not lower the worst case for one character. Lose a 50/50 at pull 90 and the guarantee at pull 180 still gets you the featured character. What it limits is a run of bad luck across several banners: you can no longer lose four 50/50s in a row.
Who you get when you lose a 50/50 (Version 7.2)
A lost 50/50 gives one of the eight standard 5-star characters: Diluc, Jean, Keqing, Mona, Qiqi, Tighnari, Dehya and Yumemizuki Mizuki. Mizuki joined the standard pool after her Version 5.4 banner (official notice). Since then, no other 5-star has been added.
