Honkai: Star Rail – Second Round of Character Buffs Incoming? Black Swan Has the Highest Expectations!

Hello, Trailblazers! The second half of Version 3.4 is now live, and the first wave of character buffs has already been rolled out. Given how quickly Honkai: Star Rail’s power creep is accelerating, many players believe the second round of buffs for older characters will be arriving soon to help them stay relevant in Memory of Chaos. Let’s take a look at the latest developments.

Looking back at the Version 3.5 preview, the devs confirmed that in addition to Jingliu and Blade, both Kafka and Silver Wolf will receive buffs in 3.5.

  • Silver Wolf’s Ultimate will now reduce all enemies’ DEF and prioritize inflicting Weakness based on the Element of your Slot 1 character.

  • Kafka will see improvements in follow-up attack triggers, debuff application rate, and her overall DoT (damage over time) output. Travelers can choose who to pull based on their team needs.

Now the big question: If a second round of buffs really is planned, when could it happen?

Given that Version 3.6 already features two new characters, it likely won’t need buffed characters to fill out banners. Therefore, Version 3.7, especially if it includes solo rate-up banners, would be a very likely candidate.

Characters with the highest probability of receiving buffs include:

  • Seele

  • Topaz

  • Dr. Ratio

  • Ruan Mei

As for Dan Heng • Imbibitor Lunae, he may not be buffed anytime soon. Despite his popularity, he’s expected to get a new form in Version 3.6, and buffing his current form could reduce incentive to pull the new version.

Looking at the banner schedule and the upcoming release of Acheron, Black Swan has a high chance of being buffed, especially to enhance DoT team synergy.

Some players are asking why updates are coming so fast. The answer lies in how quickly the meta shifts in Honkai: Star Rail. If the game slows down, older characters may lose their viability entirely. (That said, there’s no need to panic—pulling 1–2 core characters per version is usually enough to keep up, especially if you’re not chasing top-tier meta.)

To be clear: Everything above is based on speculation.
As for which characters will actually be chosen for the second buff wave, we’ll have to wait for official announcements.

Which characters do you hope to see buffed? Or what changes would you like to see in future character design?
